The best alternative to Imagify
If you want a local alternative to Imagify – no cloud upload, no account – IMG Performer is it: WebP free, AVIF in Pro, plus AI alt text and EU AI Act labelling in one plugin.
The best alternative to Imagify for WordPress is IMG Performer if you want to process images locally on your own server: no cloud upload, no account and no monthly quota.
Here is why: unlimited WebP conversion even in the free version, AVIF and AI alt text in the Pro version for €69 a year, plus AI labelling under EU AI Act Art. 50 in the same plugin. Imagify, by contrast, processes images in the cloud and needs an account with a monthly quota.

WebP and AVIF are modern image formats that produce smaller files than JPEG and PNG at the same quality. Article 50 of the EU AI regulation (EU AI Act) requires certain AI-generated content to be labelled.
Imagify compresses WordPress images reliably and creates WebP and AVIF. Its vendor, WP Media, is based in France and offers a data processing agreement. A data processing agreement (DPA) governs how a service provider processes personal data on your behalf. Two things remain: every image is uploaded to the Imagify cloud for processing, and you need an account with a monthly quota. Anyone who also needs accessible alt text or AI labelling under the EU AI Act has to add more plugins. IMG Performer handles these tasks locally and in a single plugin.
Where Imagify reaches its limits
Optimization runs on Imagify’s servers: the image leaves your server, is processed in the cloud and returns as an optimized file. Billing is by volume – the free tier covers roughly 20 MB per month (about 200 images), with paid monthly plans below it up to an unlimited tier. An account is mandatory in every case. Imagify does not generate alt text, and there is no visible or machine-readable AI label for generated images.
What IMG Performer does differently
IMG Performer converts images directly on your server – no upload to third parties and no account. WebP is included in the free version, AVIF in the Pro version, both for the original image and every intermediate size. The Pro version adds AI alt text through your own API key (no quota from us) and automatic AI labelling under EU AI Act Article 50. Image optimization, accessibility and the labelling obligation sit in one tool instead of three.

Which plugin fits you?
- Choose Imagify if you want images processed in the cloud, accept a monthly quota and only need compression.
- Choose IMG Performer if processing should stay on your server, you do not want to create an account or you also need alt text and AI labelling.
- With many images, look at the billing: Imagify bills by data volume, IMG Performer as a flat fee (Free without limit, Pro €69 a year or €9 a month).
- For alt text you need the Pro version of IMG Performer and your own API key; Imagify does not offer it.

Frequently asked questions
Isn't Imagify GDPR-compliant because the vendor is in the EU?
The EU headquarters and the data processing agreement are a plus over US services. Your images still leave your server during processing. If you want processing to stay on your own server, a local solution is the way to go.
Can I convert existing images retroactively with IMG Performer?
Yes, the Pro version includes a bulk run for the entire media library, covering all image sizes and a queue for large libraries.
Do I need a second plugin for alt text and AI labelling if I use Imagify?
Yes. Imagify only optimizes images. For BFSG-compliant alt text and labelling AI-generated images you need additional tools. IMG Performer covers all three tasks.
Do I need an account for IMG Performer?
No. Conversion and AI labelling run locally on your server, the free version works without an account. The Pro version is unlocked with a license key.
How much does IMG Performer cost compared to Imagify?
IMG Performer Free costs nothing and has no limit on WebP conversion. Pro costs €69 a year or €9 a month. According to the vendor, Imagify Unlimited costs $11.99 a month (as of 29 Sep 2026) and requires an account.
