AI image labeling is here: Img Performer 0.3.0 is live
Automatic detection, a visible badge, manual correction, a searchable history: Img Performer 0.3.0 with AI image labeling for EU AI Act Art. 50 is available now.
A few days ago we announced that we were working on a solution for AI image labeling under EU AI Act Art. 50. Here’s the update: Img Performer 0.3.0 is here.
What’s in it now
- Automatic detection of newly uploaded images — Img Performer reads embedded AI provenance data (such as C2PA manifests) before WordPress strips it while generating thumbnails
- Its own hosting-independent labeling written into the original and every generated image size, based on the IPTC standard field “Digital Source Type” — no Imagick required
- A visible “AI-generated” badge on the frontend, toggleable
- Manual correction directly in the Media Library attachment details, for the rare cases where automatic detection can’t classify an image with confidence
- A “Needs review” filter and a dedicated status column in the Media Library list view
- Searchable, paginated history of all classified uploads under Settings → AI Labeling
One thing from our earlier announcement still holds: the feature only detects an image if it carries usable provenance data itself — not every AI tool embeds this yet, and re-saving or screenshotting an image removes it. Images without a usable signal land in the history as “Unknown” so you can review them manually. And it only applies to new uploads — your existing media library isn’t scanned or changed retroactively.
What this means for you
There isn’t much time left until August 2. If you’re using AI images on your WordPress site: update to 0.3.0, turn on AI labeling in the settings, done.
